At the NCSFA’s 137th Annual Meeting and Annual Banquet the Board of Directors and membership honored several special award recipients.
Thomas Hall, Jr. from Surf City Fire Department was the recipient of the 2024 Firefighter of the Year Award. It is said of Captain Hall that Surf City FD could not meet its mission without him. He is described as a “… firefighters’
Captain and leader of leaders …” and that the Surf City FD is “… a better department because of his dedication.”
Firefighter Michael Chafin and Captain Barron Summer of Gastonia Fire Department were awarded Valor Awards during the 2024 Annual Banquet. The two made a spectacular rescue of a female from a 175 cell tower going well above and beyond the call of duty.
Another set of Valor Awards were awarded to 14 members of the City of Lexington Fire Department. Blake Bowers , Brandon Dorsett, Jon-David Everhart, John Robert Everhart, Preston Forrest, Jason Goss, Daniel Henderson, Landon Henley, Tim James, Abraham Juan, Travis Morris, Cameron Peeler, Dustin Price and Brodie Simmons were honored at the 2024 Annual Banquet for their heroic efforts to rescue one of their own, Captain Ronnie Metcalf. It was said of these firefighters that, “Though Captain Metcalf did not survive his injuries, the courage and selflessness these individuals exercised gave him a chance at life. Their actions allowed Captain Metcalf to see and speak with his family at the hospital before his condition declined.”
