Captain Brandon Jones Named 2026 Firefighter of the Year

Captain Brandon Jones of the Goldsboro Fire Department has been named the 2026 North Carolina Firefighter of the Year.

Jones received the award during the 139th Annual Meeting of the North Carolina State Firefighters’ Association, held in conjunction with the 2026 South Atlantic FIRE RESCUE Expo in Raleigh.

For more than 15 years, Jones has demonstrated outstanding dedication, leadership and service to others. In addition to his service with the Goldsboro Fire Department, he currently serves as a Deputy Fire Marshal in Wayne County, further demonstrating his commitment to his community and the fire service.

Following a devastating accident in 2023, Jones faced an extraordinary road to recovery that included multiple surgeries and extensive rehabilitation. Through remarkable determination and perseverance, he returned to work and ultimately to full-duty service.

Throughout his recovery, Jones continued contributing to his department through grant writing, project management and other support services. Despite the challenges he faced, he never allowed adversity to diminish his commitment to serving others.

Jones’ resilience, positive spirit and unwavering dedication to the fire service make him a truly deserving recipient of the 2026 North Carolina Firefighter of the Year Award.
