Prior to joining the NCSFA, Rick was the COO for Apex Instruments, an environmental technology company, where he managed operations and finances, as well as strategic planning, implementation of business strategies, and promotion of company culture and vision.
Before Apex Instruments, Rick was with the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, serving as the Director of the International Trade Division. In this role, Rick’s team supported existing North Carolina businesses in developing export strategies to increase international sales.
Rick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Planning from Florida State University and holds a Master of Business Administration from Meredith College. He is a Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP®) by Nasbite International, a member of the District Export Council, past President of the North Carolina World Trade Association, and served on the Environmental Technologies Trade Advisory Committee in Washington, DC.
Rick moved to North Carolina in 1996, where he has deep family roots. His grandfather was in law enforcement for the town of Apex, where his grandmother owned a restaurant in downtown Apex. He has been married since 1989 and is the proud father of three adult children.
