STATEMENT FROM CLOYCE ANDERS, CHAIRMAN NORTH CAROLINA VOLUNTEER SAFETY WORKERS’ COMPENSATION FUND CONCERNING THE CORONAVIRUS
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the NCVSWCF this statement is issued in order to answer many questions concerning the compensability of exposure to the Coronavirus while going about the duties of your department/employer. This is a very fluid situation and one in which none of use have a great deal of experience. However, this will be treated much like your exposure to a Blood Borne Pathogen situation. If you are exposed while going about the duties of your department this should become a compensable claim. Coverage will be provided for your medical expenses and your loss of income due to the illness or the requirement that you are quarantined by a medical director or appropriate medical officials. Remember, workers’ compensation will not pay for the first week of disability. Payment will begin the 8th day of disability and if the disability continues for 21 days then the first week will be paid. If you have any questions call me at 919-818-6900 and I will attempt to answer your concerns. Stay safe and God Bless You For The Work You Do!
