Dear Rail Safety Partner:
The reality remains that every 3 hours in the United States (U.S.), a person or vehicle is struck by a train. We recognize your role as first responders, educators, and safety and government organizations in helping to reduce the number of deaths and injuries that occur around railroad tracks and trains. Many of you respond to these calls and know first-hand the consequences of unsafe behavior on and around railroad tracks. Together, we can reduce and eliminate these preventable accidents.
How can you make an impact? Join forces with the Amtrak Police Department and Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI) – a national rail safety education non-profit – during Rail Safety Week (Sept 18-24) across North America by educating your residents on the importance of rail safety and helping them make safe choices.
It’s easy. Sign up to share the rail safety message virtually on your social media platforms and web site. Share this email with organizations in your community and invite them to participate.
Registering your participation gets you
- FREE rail safety cards to distribute
- A multi-platform social content calendar filled with a month of content
- A media advisory template to help promote in person events
- A list of rail safety assets to share throughout the year
Even if there are not any railroad tracks in your community, your citizens undoubtedly encounter tracks and trains outside your locality. With 140,000 miles of track and 212,000 railroad crossings throughout the US, it’s important they know how to stay safe. Request rail safety cards to hand out at recreation centers, downtown business districts or other public locations.
