If your Department Participates in the Volunteer Safety Workers Compensation Program,
here is an update regarding premiums for the upcoming year.
Although we continue to encourage fire departments to budget for Workers Compensation Costs
each year, it has been brought to our attention recently that the NC General Assembly may, as they have
in the past few years, waive premiums in that program for the upcoming year. Although
no legislation has been filed, it is our understanding that it may be included in one of the
funding bills moving through the Legislature.
We would encourage you to budget for that costs just in case, but it may be that that money could be
used elsewhere if the funding exemption occurs.
